Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

7. The Voice SquadMany’s The Foolish Youth

Another family group who make the most glorious sound. The dignity of these three chaps just standing there and singing! Their voices blend so beautifully. Jenny Barton who ran The Troubadour first sent me a tape of them after she moved to Northern Ireland, and I loved it from the start. I remember playing ‘Banks Of The Bann’ to Dolly once, and she wept and wept and wept. It gets you under the skin. I like watching videos of them too, and think they sing better as older men. With age comes knowledge, they say. [laughs] For some people, anyway!
