Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

13. The InternetFeel Good

It was nice to see Syd as a producer and a Black queer woman. I was like, whoa – I could be in this group [Odd Future], these boys seem to be completely fine as well… could this be what the world could be like if you’re around good people? She was someone I looked up to quite a lot. They’re my age – I’m 32 and they’re only a little bit older.

Feel Good is the album just before they were about to be big. They were switching and they were changing, but there’s something about this album that I resonate with a lot. It feels almost like the end to something, but the start of something at the same time. There’s still a lot of nostalgic, young feelings that were coming from this album that I resonated with: summer is over, and now we’re about to enter into this new age of adult life. By the time I got to the album after that [Hive Mind] I was like, okay: I really get where we’re going here. I feel grown, I feel like an adult.
