10. KofiWishing Well

She’s a fucking lovers rock legend. I had a loss in my family recently which was quite intense to think about and deal with on the basis of my sense of self. This person represented where my family has come from, and I feel like the beauty of listening to a lovers rock album and knowing exactly the cadences and the style of what she’s trying to achieve is a really nice thing. It made me feel very at home. Wishing Well grounded me especially when making the album, there were bits that I definitely took from to make With A Vengeance. It was nice to be sure of oneself.
I feel like people are aware of the influence that West India has had on music, but it deserves to be written about a lot more and actually focusing on genres that aren’t just ska and reggae – that’s for another time! But yeah, such an amazing album and lovers rock is just such an amazing genre that also gets you up out of depression.
