Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

5. CardiacsOn Land And In The Sea

Cardiacs are probably my favourite band ever. We shared a manager many, many years ago and I became friends with Tim [Smith, Cardiacs frontman] through that partnership. Just an amazing, amazing band; Tim was just a genius in my opinion. The music, to me, was transcendent, you couldn’t really pinpoint what influenced them, and I think that’s a great trait to have. They really tapped into something – you either got Cardiacs or you didn’t, but I think if you got them, they really inspired you. A lot of the strange timing stuff they do has blatantly influenced Napalm. [This album is] a tough one, but it’s one that I really love. I’ve got a test pressing of this which is my pride and joy!
