Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. Killing JokePylon

Another classic band with so many albums to choose from, and another band that Micky, the old Napalm Death drummer, got me into. I was well into them in the early 90s, I just marvelled at the guitar playing of Geordie. I’d hear all these notes and these sounds coming out but his hand didn’t seem like it was moving. It was definitely, as Napalm started moving in different directions, something I wanted to try and incorporate in the guitar style.

Excellent live band, and I love Jaz [Coleman, vocalist], especially as I’ve started doing some singing and backing vocals lately. He’s quite a big influence in those ways. A couple of tracks on the last Napalm album are definitely Killing Joke influenced. But again, they’re one of those bands that have been around for such a long time, they’ve got so many great albums, it’s hard to know which one to pick. This one came out quite a while ago now, but it’s the last album they’ve done so far and it’s quite amazing to me. It would be a personal goal of mine to do some shows with them before they call it a day.
