4. Fulborn TevershamCount Herbert II
I remember seeing this group play live and I just thought, ‘I do not know what this music is!’ I was just so struck. It wasn’t something in which you could identify genres, it wasn’t like hearing a mixture of jazz and punk and being able to say that it is more weighted in favour of punk. I could see various influences throughout but I couldn’t define it – that approach to making music has stayed with me. Suddenly, music didn’t have to be labelled. It didn’t have to be something that belonged to coherent genre or style. Emotionally, there are also some areas explored in this album that were totally new for me. The song ‘Even If’ is my stand out moment on the album. When I listen to it, it wholly affects me. It’s very seldom that an album is produced that actually takes over the analytical side of my brain. It nullified it, and I just got reduced to an absolute listener.
