5. Sir Shina PetersAce
Ace was a Juju record, but that transcended and pushed the boundaries of Juju again forward, in a different way. Sir Shina Peters came with the music in a form that used to be traditional storytelling.
What Shina Peters did was bring themes of everyday, modern living. How the young people lived and portrayed it in Juju music, which was something that had never been done before. And everybody in my generation, if you meet them today and you start singing any song from the Ace album, or Experience, those young people lost their minds.
And gambling was one of the biggest themes, so he had this song called ‘Afro Juju’ (singing), ‘Seven, seven, seven is a number, Adasi je won o’. As far as anybody pushed it, it was Sir Shina.
