He’s such an important person for me, Justin Broadrick. As a teenager I was into grindcore, and acts like Napalm Death and Carcass. Justin Broadrick is on the first Napalm Death album. I used to learn all the beats on this EP when I was playing drums – they’re on a drum machine but I learned so much from them – and the vocals are so dreamy and set back. With grindcore, I love it, but the vocals were never my favourite thing about the music. Broadrick’s vocals just hit me in a different place. It felt like there were a lot of elements of what I liked in music in Godflesh’s music.
