Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Massive AttackBlue Lines

Blue Lines was a different sound. It was the 90s and music was weird in the 90s. You had rave music come on the scene and there was no lyrics, it was was all ravey, ravey, ravey. Then you had Oasis and the guitar stuff. Then Massive Attack came out.

It was ‘Unfinished Sympathy’ I remember; the video being done in one cut, the strings on that track making the hairs on my arms stand up on end. Then I bought the album and every track on the album is just brilliant. The way that they had different singers and different styles, that’s why I like that album so much.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: UNKLE, Sarah Cracknell, Nightmares on Wax
