2. Bill Wells & Aidan MoffatEverything’s Getting Older
The album depresses me for different reasons than it depresses most people. It’s near perfect. It’s a near-perfect blend of Bill and Aidan. Lyrically, it’s Aidan’s strongest work. Bill’s playing’s understated and beautiful and exciting. I remember hearing it for the first time and just going, fuck, I need to up my game. It still gets me.
I had music on shuffle on my way here, and ‘(If You) Keep Me In Your Heart’ came on, and I was like, Jesus Christ. It’s so beautiful. Some of my favourite lyrics – ever – are in that song. And the double bass just totally drives it. Stevie Jones is a talented bastard. And Aby Vulliamy’s playing on it is incredible.
Aidan and I did ‘Car Song’ [on Thirteen Lost & Found] around the same time he was making this. I sent Aidan the guitar version, and then about ten months later, two days before we were supposed to record the album, he sent me a demo. I was freaking the fuck out. Luckily it was amazing, so all is forgiven. We’re actually working on a new album together.
