Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. Wu-Tang ClanEnter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers

I put Wu-Tang in the same category as Mobb Deep, except they have some amazing MCs; they were all cold. I must have been about 15-years-old when I first heard it, and that was at a time when I started being a bit naughty; bunking off school and stuff like that. The kung-fu samples and themes had me hooked from very early on, and most of the MCs are still doing well. No other crew tried it with Wu-Tang either, they couldn’t say anything about them. My favourite track has to be ‘C.R.E.A.M.’ and they’re saying everything I can relate to: smoking on the staircase, having straps, you get a vivid picture in your head.
