Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

5. EminemThe Marshall Mathers LP

Eminem is the best rapper ever; there’s no one that can spit like him. He’s technically better than everyone, even if there are other rappers with more swag. When I first heard ‘Stan’ I thought to buy the album, and that later made me go back to his older mixtapes; they’re all mad. I was thinking, ‘where has this geezer been?’. I was blown away by the whole album, and I kept going on about how cold he was. It might sound silly but, it was generally a thought of, ‘how can he be this good and be white?’. We were used to the sick rappers being black, so it was a bit of a shock, and he never once came across as a gangster. He didn’t talk about money, it was just the bars and storytelling that were speaking for themselves.
