Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. Doc WatsonThe Watson Family

I love Doc Watson. I think his work is just really brilliant and beautiful and simple. He was also just prodigiously talented on the guitar. This record is maybe not one of the better known records that he’s done but it incorporates so many different voices and part of his milieu and whatnot. I love the rawness and the beauty of that and how, again, the emphasis is not on perfection but it’s on conviction. It’s another record that I listen to pretty often, like quite, quite, constantly
