Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

7. Matana RobertsCoin Coin Chapter 4 : Memphis

She came through where I live a few months ago and I was not able to see her, I think I was out of town, but I really want to see her live. The work that she does is super, super, important and she gives an incredible and beautiful narrative to this storytelling. This record is about a woman who was murdered. To me it’s very experimental the way that she creates and builds her records and the way that she utilises this kind of sonic palette. I think again she’s a really fantastic storyteller and she should be way bigger than she is. All of her records are incredible, but I like this one quite a bit.
