3. Brian Eno –Â Another Green World
Again, discovering Brian Eno was just a total eye-opener. I’d been playing in lots of different bands and making my own music for a long time. I had interests in so many different types of music, and sometimes I found it hard to relate with some of my musician friends who had more specific tastes – they didn’t have a whole lot of crossover sometimes. I had friends who were into folk music, friends who were into this and that, but hearing Brian Eno experiment with all these different types of music was really inspiring to me. I’d already kind of been doing that myself, but to hear someone else do it, and so incredibly beautifully, it was a huge inspiration for me. That year – it wasn’t until 2006 that I discovered Brian Eno – that was the only year of my life that I kept a journal. One of the journal pages literally just has the sentence, ‘Brian Eno is a genius’, written over and over again to fill up the page [laughs]. I chose that record because it is such a great combination of a lot of the different styles he worked in over the years.
