Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. Portrayal Of GuiltChristfucker

AC: That title’s got to be tongue in cheek right? I like it when there’s a little bit of a wink. Like when Sunn O))) do the doom claw in slow motion. Although the music is quite austere. This is quite a bleak listen. A bit bleaker than I’d usually go for as I’m not really that into black metal. But again, with this one I feel like you can hear a lot of different influences and it’s fairly catchy. I can hear bands like the Melvins, Jesus Lizard and stuff like that. I hadn’t been hugely into their previous albums, I’d liked their first EP, but this just feels a bit different. There’s guitars that are weirdly tuned, it’s got this kind of fuzzy, horrible-but-nice sound around the edges.
