Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Björk – Homogenic

She was kind of my first true obsession. I had a Björk website where I just typed out all her lyrics. Even though you could find them other places, I wanted them on my website. This was when the internet was different, so it just curated pictures of Björk, lyrics, and a list my favorite Björk websites. I was just obsessed with her whole world.

What was the website called?

Oh god, I’m not going to say. It’s a long saying. It’s so embarrassing, like telling someone your AOL screen name.

Why were you obsessed?

I was not interested in having the body that I had, having the sexuality that I had. I would come to own it a little more. But I was not into being where I lived, being around the people I was around. And she just seemed like she made her own world on top of the world that we’re already on. And I wanted to go there.
