Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

6. Keb’ MoKeb’ Mo’

My partner Irene introduced me to Keb’ Mo’. I love how his way of singing is so interruptive and he talks to his guitar the same way as a lot of the American blues singers that I grew up listening to. Keb’ Mo’ nearly always makes me want to get up and walk around. My likes and dislikes depend on how I feel at the time and right now I’m feeling that I want something calm because I’ve done 33 interviews in six and a half weeks. So, I thought, I’ve given you lots of slow things – I think we need to have something to get me out of my chair. It’s Keb’ Mo,’ just singing the way he wants to sing, like Big Bill Broonzy did.
