Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. KraftwerkComputer World

When I listen to Computer World, it’s just such a perfect idea. And the music matches every word they say. And it’s such gorgeous, easy listening music to me. It calms me down. When I used to be on tour a lot and I couldn’t fall asleep, I just put on Computer World. Those sounds are so satisfying. They’re not loud, they’re not abrasive, but they’re all very distinct. And I love that about it. And every song is about a computer world, but it’s this fantasy computer world. I just loved it. Trans Europe Express, of course, is incredible too. I used to take Modern Dance when I was like 15. And we would dance to Trans Europe Express, and we would be doing these weird dances to it.
