Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

13. Van MorrisonVeedon Fleece

I heard Van Morrison in the womb, you know? It’s in my DNA. What a staggering, unbelievable talent. And not so many people know this record. It’s obviously not as well known as Astral Weeks but it’s just superb. It’s like a secret puzzle. It’s like something that I’ll never quite get to the bottom of. His voice is just raw emotion; the structure of the songs; the way he brings just pure soul to everything. It’s almost fathomless, this record.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Destroyer, Lee Buford, Kid Millions
