13. Eyvind KangThe Narrow Garden
I think I heard him shortly after I made my first record, Has A Good Home, in one of those moments of, "If this is the music you make you should check out Eyvind Kang". I feel as if he’s cornered the market on making records by over-dubbing your violin. That tracked-at-home sound, he’s really mastered it. That was a major contributing force in me trying to get away from that in subsequent records, despite the fact that that’s essentially what the live show is, me tracking my violin in different ways. Hearing Narrow Garden made me want to work with other forms, with chamber groups or whatever. There’s a part of my brain that’s always working like a committee, the Don’t Bite Eyvind Kang Committee. "Does this sound like Eyvind Kang? If it does, scrap it."
