11. SolangeA Seat At The Table

This is the record that defined Solange not just as a musical artist but as a visual artist, too. What puts her in a league above so many other people, is that she has this ability to really express a point of view visually and musically that just knocks it out of the park. She takes my breath away. She’s brave and experimental and it comes from a pure place where she isn’t chasing hits. The Dev Hynes record before this one was the start of her really striking out visually. When you saw the live performances, she was on that path. Obviously with this record, when she totally authored herself then everything fell into place. It’s a sensational record that she totally owns.
