Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

There’s a great sense of nostalgia attached to this album because I’ve had it on rotation since I was a teenager. The instrumentals in the album are mainly piano or guitar, and very little else. In spite of that the compositions didn’t seem to follow any conventional pop structures, instead they were rooted in Mitchell’s own stories and following her journey. Each track on the album felt like a vignette with its own miniature dramatic tale. It was an album that caught me by surprise because I wasn’t expecting to be drawn in by her versatile voice and production the way I was and it became my go-to album for a long time.
