13. Ennio MorriconeThe Good the Bad & The Ugly
You can’t imagine the Spaghetti Western without the score of The Good, The Bad and Ugly. How Morricone uses whistles or a cry to make it part of the music and scenes made the score so much more memorable. When he passed away recently, it was a sad day for me and so many other composers. Almost without exception all composers I’ve spoken to have put him in their top three composers. He knew how to connect image and sound in a way no one else ever has. He knew how to draw your heart and soul out in an extraordinary way.
