7. Cleo SolMother

Sometimes you don’t realise you’ll get so attached to something. I remember when I first listened to this I was so in love with this album. I still am. I love that it has such different musical styles. Everything is so unique. Cleo Sol is someone who’s working in this flawless way and you feel like they’re able to do exactly what they want in the music; say exactly what they want with the lyrics, create the exact mood that they want and have all the right tools to access that.
My favourite song is ‘Don’t Let It Go To Your Head,’ it feels like it takes you to another time without it being pastiche. That’s really important; how something can be very listenable but it’s not easy listening. It still has its own voice and still has its own kind of dagger, in a way. It’s powerful. I’ve never been able to see Cleo Sol live because the shows always sell out so quickly, but I’d love to see her. With the music that Cleo Sol’s released since, I don’t get why it’s not bigger to be honest, I’m a bit confused by that. Inflo’s the producer, they’ve been working together for a long time. They collaborate on Sault, as well. Mother is in that world, but this is clearly their solo project.
