Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. Yaya BeyDo It Afraid

This is a new record. I was so excited for it to come out since the day she put out ‘Dream Girl’. I’d been following her music before that, and always enjoyed what I’d heard, but when that single came out I immediately loved it so much.

It’s its own world; it creates its own narrative. It’s got so many different moods in it. I appreciate this album, a lot. It’s been a great recent companion. ‘Cindy Rella’ is probably my favourite track from it. Also, Do It Afraid is such a great title for an album and a great line, in general. Yaya Bey’s a really interesting artist in the way that she makes it all about the music. The way she talks about her work, as well, you can see so much thought behind the process. I find that very inspiring.
