Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. Joan ArmatradingMe Myself I

Joan Armatrading is a classic artist and writer. I feel like lots of people know ‘Love And Affection,’ I don’t remember exactly how I discovered Me Myself I, I think my friend was showing me ‘The Weakness In Me’ and some of her later stuff, but this album stood out. I saw Joan performing a more recent version of ‘Me Myself I,’ where it was just her and a really distorted, fuzzy guitar. You could tell that a lot of time had passed between that album coming out and her performance of it, but I felt like the essence of it was exactly the same. I hadn’t heard a lot of songs, at that time in my life, that sounded like that. This is just a really cool record and she’s a really cool artist.
