Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. OutkastStankonia

We were playing the same festival as Outkast earlier in the day while I had the flu, and it was so heavy. Janelle MonĂ¡e came on with her band and fucking slayed, so me and my bandmates at the side of the stage were already crying, and then Outkast came onstage. They played and it was so incredible. Stankonia in particular meant a lot to me and to a trillion people, so hearing it and feeling it was one thing. It was just AndrĂ© 3000 and Big Boi with a DJ and all of the musicians were women, but the thing that capped it for me was when they were coming offstage, and I heard AndrĂ© talking to the band, and he was like ‘You guys did great tonight, I’m so proud of all of you’. It just broke my heart. What a beautiful thing! It was crazy beautiful. It was the cherry on my love of Outkast. It was awesome too ’cause AndrĂ© was wearing this one piece suit which said ‘I love the elderly’ on it
