Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

7. Talking HeadsRemain In Light

I’ve had the pleasure of David [Byrne]’s company on a few occasions and the pleasure of singing on stage with him. So it has been a wonderful coming around, because I was very smitten with that record when it came out. It was before I got married and I remember the place I heard it first in Melbourne. I saw them in Amsterdam with XTC, and then numerous times afterwards.

On my first time in New York my brother and I were taken to Central Park by our manager, who just happened to be Tommy Mottola at the time – a strange quirk now I think about it, and literally straight off the plane, went straight to the Park to the side of stage to see Talking Heads play, and it was an extraordinary show. I think they loved it as well as they came off feeling very buoyant from what I could tell. I have a really big connection with that record, and it’s only been enhanced by getting to know David, who is a very charming and funny man.
