Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

3. The J.B.’sFood For Thought

This record is from Double Four Records in Stockport in the late 80s. The brothers who owned the shop were both massive soul fans, and as I seemed to be pretty much the only person who was buying black music from them at the time, I got to go through their back room and to their houses to sift through tunes that were not on sale. These buying sessions helped me build up a big collection of classic tunes. Proper personal service! This album does not have a single average moment, from the classic party funk of ‘Pass The Peas’ to the mellow ‘Theme From King Heroin’. Just the sound of a ridiculously tight band having a brilliant time.
