Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Fela KutiPerambulator

I first read about this album in an edition of Soul Underground magazine in 1988, and spent the next 20 years looking for a copy. A proper rough-arsed recording, the title track is fast, heavy and rude, and the B-side is a later version of his classic Koola Lobitos tune ‘My Lady Frustration’. Not the best or most accessible Fela album, but one that is close to my heart.
