Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Laura CannellSimultaneous Flight Movement

When you come across an artist that you know has the same sensibility as you, and you work with them, it’s just fantastic. I love Laura so much. The way she can play two recorders, and the fiddle, and create music that sits in such a strange place, in that it sounds very old and really new at the same time – I find it just extraordinary.

I met Laura when we did this programme called Open Ear on Radio 3. It’s like Jools Holland but for weirdos. [laughs] Ipek Gorgun was on there too, who is amazing – ha, I snuck another in there! She’s a Turkish sound artist and composer and so, so good – look her up now.   What I love about Laura, though, is that she’s so inquisitive and talented, but such a lovely person too. She worked with me on Beyond The Deepening Shadow, and she brought so much depth and beauty to it. Everything she’s done is fantastic.
