12. Smokey RobinsonMy World (The Definitive Collection)

This list is an interesting one for me, because I didn’t even have a record player until I was 19 years old. I was raised on radio, so I loved singles. I didn’t really have any records before then: the first record I bought at a thrift store was the soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey, and years later we started opening our shows with that music. But when I did get into music, I started exploring older artists like Smokey Robinson. I’m going to go with a greatest hits here because I don’t have a bunch of his individual records, but honestly, you could throw a dart at any Smokey Robinson album and you would learn something. It’ll teach you a little bit about what music used to sound like, and how it can still sound great today.
