4. The Partridge FamilyI Think I Love You
So now we’re going into music that I heard as a kid. The first two were stuff that my dad probably played, but now I’m talking about music that I heard on the radio and, in this case, the TV. I think Keith Partridge, AKA David Cassidy, was like the first rock star I saw on TV. Because I was really young when that show, The Partridge Family, was on, maybe four or five or six when it was first on the air, and I loved the show. I thought he was a real rock star. He had long hair and he was this teen idol and girls would chase him, and it was kind of weird that girls looked like they wanted to attack him, like rip his clothes or pull his hair, which I couldn’t understand because I thought they liked him. That TV show made it seem very exciting to be a rock star.
And the song ‘I Think I Love You’, I didn’t listen to it for many years and when I listen to it again, it’s very, very catchy. I mean, extremely catchy. The chorus is just as catchy as hell, I remember hearing the song as a kid and always liking it. I think there was something about fame in that show that stimulated something in me. It seemed like something to aspire to, in a weird way. But I think the song holds up. I have to say I don’t know who wrote it, I didn’t look that up (Tony Romeo – ed). But I think David Cassidy’s voice is very mature in a way, and strong. I mean, he was very young, I think he was like 20 or 21, but I like how he sings, especially on this track.
