Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. Masada

Alpha Blondy is someone I really like, he’s very, very intelligent. He really gets over messages about the problems in Africa, problems related to religion too. He’s a very intelligent artist, but I also listen to his interviews sometimes. He’s so impressive, he talks about things that are really important, they’re messages that come from a real intellectual. When people ask me about my opinion on things, things I would like to change, I say that Alpha Blondy should be the president of his country. He’s someone I’d really like to meet.

I’ve never tried playing reggae but I could. If I write a song that demands to be done in a reggae style, I’ll do it. I follow my compositions. I’m not in charge, it’s the song that’s in charge, it’s the poetry. If it needs a reggae beat to sound good, I’ll do reggae my own way.
