Ali Farka Touré is someone I love because what he does is really unique. The way he plays the guitar is different from the way anyone else on earth plays it. Why? Because he started out playing a sort of violin [a single-stringed fiddle called the njarka]. And he can play a particular scale and change a note in it, so he has strategies that are really personal to him. I find listening to him very exciting.
