2. Colin StetsonAll This I Do For Glory
I suppose one of the most unfortunate things for me in 2017 is that I don’t find enough time to listen to albums as whole pieces. I need to skim through a record or pick a couple of tracks out. My experience with Colin is entirely different, the second that I heard that he had new album coming up and the second the Soundcloud link was delivered to me, I stopped everything that I was doing in that moment to listen to that record. I feel that he’s an artist that can change the way you actually think about music. I feel that he is utterly extraordinary in every sense, the way he trains his body physically; he’s very ritualistic in that training so that he can develop the sort of relationship he wants to with his instrument. I remember watching him play for the first time and thinking how much it taxes him physically, spiritually, emotionally and we talked about the fact that he plays up until the point at which he feels he’s about to lose consciousness, literally. I don’t feel there’s really anybody else in the world who gives so much of their all to a relationship with their instrument. I adore him. I feel that his work is so deeply inspirational, it really moves me. It’s great for me to have something on the list that is only just released too, it’s wonderful to put it on there rather than always looking back. I think I’d go as far to say he’s my favourite artist in the world right now.
