Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

It’s a Northern Soul tune, came out in 1967 I think. I bought a Northern Soul compilation, I can’t remember what it’s called, but it was no. four, so it should have been hitting the dregs. But you can’t really with Northern Soul, that’s the thing. There’s about 9,000 tracks on it but they’re all brilliant. And nestled away on like, side 15, was this track. It really grabbed me so I had to hunt it down. Every time I DJ I play it. It’s a great vocal. What I love about Northern Soul records is that each one… y’know when that record came out it would have sold about 200 copies, but it would’ve been somebody’s favourite record of all time. Behind all these labels and names on labels there are so many stories, and history. I like the fact that the least successful Northern Soul records are the most highly sought after, because there are fewer of them.
