7. Bob Dylan – Blood On The Tracks
I think for me Dylan even more than Leonard and even more than my parents is the ideal songwriter. He’s inescapable. It’s great to have people like that where you just know that it’s going to be good; it makes the time on the planet more bearable in a way – to be able to know that we had the opportunity to be here at the same time and to experience his music. For me, it’s a real gift. That feeling he creates where you just want to close your eyes and cry, hanging off every word – the combination of his performance with these lyrics which are human consciousness but also so totally crafted – that’s really interesting.
We had it in the house a lot and I just ended up listening to it a lot as a young person. And also because it’s a quintessential record now yet it wasn’t at the time, so there’s something a little bit quirky about it. There’s something very free about the sound of it and it’s a little bit different; it’s very lyrical and I like that about it.
