Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. Joni MitchellLadies Of The Canyon

This is such a bloody cliché, isn’t it? She seems to be everyone’s muse! But she had such a really original style of singing and playing, and she was so brave with her voice – reaching for notes, going up and down the scale, twisting and turning. Her whole life sung through her own strange perspective. I listened to so much when I was young, and it seeped into me, and what I like. A whole intimate world painted and sung in her own way.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Mark Jenkin, Kim Wilde, Lee Ranaldo
