Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

4.

Various Artists – Otto; Or Up With Dead People Original Soundtrack

A lot of these records are like postcards from the edge. They become favourites because when I got them something was happening or kicking off, sending me into another stratosphere or causing another door to open for me.

I really like [director] Bruce LaBruce’s work. I just love his sense of humour and the way the guy operates; he’s the most punk rock thing out there at the moment. Bruce just sums up this Berlin period of about a year, year-and-a-half ago. This friend of mine, Tony, who put out my last record on this label called Crippled Dick Hot Wax!, also put out the Vampiros Lesbos soundtrack which again is very, very interesting. I just love the way Bruce operates – this whole thing about gay, cannibal zombies, I just get it! Bruce made this film about these people with massive strap ons shagging each other and it was like, “Oooh!”

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Lord Spikeheart, Tom Ravenscroft
