Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. CTI (aka Chris & Cosey)European Rendezvous – CTI Live 1983

This is one of the most enigmatic records I own. I can’t explain why, but it just has a presence about it: maybe the cover, Cosey mid-blast on whatever brass instrument she is holding, and the commensurate atonal drone heard later; maybe the names of cities I had (at that point) never been to; maybe the deliberately (?) naïve typography. For me this record represented the allure of another world, one characterised by the incomprehensible. It totally is what it is and sprawls all over your head. For me, this record is also important because of the potentially hypothetical organisation it named: the Creative Technology Institute. I think this prompted my urge to identify possible relationships between creativity and technology. An urge I have thankfully grown out of.
