Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

1. Giacinto ScelsiNatura Renovatur

My first serious boyfriend, who was much older than me, put me onto this record. I would go visit him because I was still living with my mother at the time. I guess I was about 18 and he played that at his house and I was like ‘wow, this is really intense but I love it’. It was not easy listening but it sounded so natural to me. It was my first exposure to contemporary classical music and from that I started to get into other similar stuff. I still listen to lots of that now, and I listen to a lot of classical music in general. It’s not the kind of music I do of course because I’m not a trained musician but I’ve been listening to this stuff for over 10 years now so I guess in some way, maybe melodically, it has influenced me.
