Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. Jeremy RifkinThe Age Of Resilience

As bleak and alarming as The Age of Surveillance Capitalism is, The Age of Resilience is more positive, which gives you an insight into what’s going on in my mind. It touches on tech, but it’s more about global warming and switching to green energy and redefining the way we approach our stay on this planet. Rifkin wrote the book during Biden’s administration. He was actually hired by Biden’s government to start transitioning into green energy in a lot of sectors in the US. With Trump’s administration, the book’s optimism isn’t as relevant. But it’s still positive. Rifkin says at some point we will face the fact that we have to change. He’s confident that we will probably manage, and that’s why he’s talking about resilience.

Am I a green-oriented person? I wasn’t. I don’t own a car, I recycle, I don’t buy a lot of shit, but I wasn’t really paying attention until the last few years. As a touring artist, I know at some point I will have to bring change into my artistic process because I have a feeling we’ll be able to tour less. Flying is so bad. It’s going to get very expensive. I’m not just going to go around the world to promote myself forever. I don’t have a solution, but I’m thinking about it. I know I’m going to have to face that as an artist.
