12. Jean BaudrillardSimulacra And Simulation

It’s the book at the beginning of The Matrix, in Neo’s apartment when he pulls a book out of his library. I read it pre-pandemic, but it fits the themes of my album. It also fits the world we live in. Jean Baudrillard foresaw — without naming it — social media. He was already talking about the mise-en-scène and the staging of things. It’s a continuation of a book that was written in the 1960s, The Society Of The Spectacle by Debord. Baudrillard applied his concept to postmodernism. And now we don’t even know where we are, but we’re post everything.
