Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

13. Nick Cave & the Bad SeedsMurder Ballads

‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’ is a lovely song. Nick loves Kylie Minogue, he really adores her, and she’s Australian and they both get on very well, so I’m not surprised she was on this album. She’s got a lovely little voice. Polly Harvey was on this album as well, I really like her. None of this is easy listening, but it’s really interesting, and really well done. It was a great, experimental thing to do. I don’t know if it would work nowadays, we’re lucky that he did it 15 years ago. Things have got more and more gauche, but Nick Cave is still blazing on.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Fred Macpherson, Frank Carter, Dinos Chapman
