Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

Well, it’s a beautiful record and Mr Fingers is great. It feels quite warm and velvet-like, but it’s got that electronica in there. It’s got that digital soul sound, which doesn’t require vocals. I think he sampled real children at play; when he made it, there were kids outside. But I just loved the sound. You know, a little bit like ‘What About This Love’, which is coming out in the same era, it’s just a very beautiful track.

It’s just about fast enough to play to congregations of people at 6am, usually outside, usually as the sun comes up. It’s such a spine tingling track. With Mr Fingers, there are so many tracks. And I didn’t choose it to be clever. It just happens to be one of my favourite records.
