Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Cosmic GateRhythm & Drums

The Roland JP-8000 is the first synth on which you can find my beloved Supersaw, a new waveform implemented here in the 90s, which gave birth to the sound of trance… or vice versa. I really see Rhythm & Drums as a Roland JP-8000 user manual, or maybe even the user’s bible. This record is not filled to the brim with this specific sound like many other trance records are, but here it’s used in many different ways and all of them can serve as precious teachings to younger producers. Dark cybernetic scenarios, cold 303 bass lines and epic orchestral builds, Nic Chagall and DJ Bossi deliver high quality trance with no compromises whatsoever. "How fucking wonderful it is to watch a big ball of fire… melt to the ocean" (‘Melt To The Ocean’).
