10. Betty DavisThis Is It!
I just love this album. I actually found a mixing desk that Betty Davis had recorded her album on and used it on Hinterland. It belonged to Sly Stone and I got to use it as a homage to her and this incredible record. I never tire of listening to this. I don’t know how I stumbled into the funk room, but once I went in, I was there for it in a big way. I’ve always just seemed to love funk. The guitar playing in funk, there’s just something really lean and gnarly about it. It can be show-offy, but more often than not it’s just more about an attitude and an economic rhythm. I just love it’s style and this record epitomises that.
