She doesn’t even need me for this to be recognised as a quality record. I wrote on the front of it "genius, electric soul record" because I think some of the tracks on it are so complete as a piece of work. Obviously, I’m very proud of her because she’s my daughter and I always knew she was capable, but I didn’t realise how capable she was. She’s been formulating all this for a long time now. She’s had an extraordinary journey to get to this and she’s worked so hard on this. Everyone’s picking out certain tracks on this. I love ‘Be Ache’ and ‘Nothing Solutions’. The track that stands out to me is ‘Heart Wrecking Animals’. It’s a pop record as well, but in a really fresh way. It’s close to me because I’ve seen so much of it being formulated, but I haven’t heard a lot of these recent tracks, so to hear it all as one complete work is pretty mind blowing.
She’s done all the production herself, she played all the instruments, sung it all and recorded it all. That’s punk as well, that’s what you want to hear about, complete control of it all. Over the years she’s been around me and watched Leftfield. She soaked up that world and some of the music, but she went off and did it all herself. She’s taken all these influences and people she’s worked with and written a very brilliant bit of music. That’s why it’s on my list. There’s no need for me to hype it because it’s naturally happening as a record. It’s different to everything else on the list. ‘Heart Wrecking Animals’ is up there with anything else on the list as a piece of music.
